Cozy Farm House Bedroom
Styling a bedroom is one of the best ways to let your style shine. Your bedroom is a place where you spend a lot of your time, so making it your little oasis is so important. I am going to show you how I styled my bedroom and share where you can get some of the items I used to capture that "farm house" look.
Styling a southern/farm house bedroom was something I could not wait to do in our first home. I have found that decorating a bedroom is one of my favorite things to do because you can style each one in a completely different way, allowing each to have their own unique feel. Mixing "new" pieces with "antique" pieces makes a room feel warm and cozy. You can take old dated furniture and add a layer of chalk paint to make a piece look like a million bucks.
Buying awesome bedding for a great price has become a subtle addiction of mine. Bedding is so versatile and can be mix-matched with different quilts or duvets to make a completely different look. If you have a neutral-toned duvet, you can add a quilt to the end of your bed to make it fit the current season. The only way this is practical is if you can find good deals, and that means taking your time to shop around (unfortunately that means not just buying something full price because you want it so bad... I know, easier said than done). The blue and white duvet cover on my bed was originally $129.99, but I found it on sale in Pottery Barn for $39.99! Watch your favorite stores' online deals and definitely check out Amazon Prime to see if they have the same products at a better price.
Styling a southern, comfy, and clean looking master bedroom was my goal. I picked whites, beiges, greys, and blues to tie together a complete look. I started by picking out a beige Upholstered Panel Bed from Wayfair. Wayfair has the best prices on upholstered bedding, and the options are endless. Next, I found both duvet covers from Pottery Barn (if you are getting married, I highly recommend you register for your favorite bedding here). I wanted a white duvet cover so I could pair it with different colored quilts or duvets as seasons change.
The rug and side table in our bedroom were such a steal. I go to Home Goods almost once a week to check out their deals. You have to take your time when going through Home Goods because it is like a treasure hunt. It takes time to find the perfect treasure for your home. I found the rug for $75 and the side tables for $55! To find deals like this on great pieces, I recommend going when they get their new shipments in - Tuesdays and sometimes Thursdays.
Lastly, do not, I repeat, do not throw away dated furniture without first trying to salvage it with chalk paint. Growing up, I had two beautiful dark wood pieces of furniture in my bedroom. I wanted a lighter look in my new master bedroom, so my mother-in-law suggested I try chalk paint. It only took two coats to get the look you will see in the image below. Annie Sloan chalk paint is a life saver, and I plan to give you all a chalk paint tutorial in the near future! Stay tuned!
